Work Description:
I designed the box as if it were a package from a bookstore. The list includes manga, drawing tutorial books, review materials, and Japanese learning books. The manga, on the surface, reflects my love for comics, but it also symbolizes my potential. Like an ongoing series, I keep updating my "story" as I encounter different experiences. The drawing tutorial books, and review materials relate to my background. I attended a regular high school, so academics were always my focus. But after I developed an interest in drawing and design. I chose to pursue the one I love—design. The Japanese learning books reflect my interest in Japan. The transparent cover and the "keep frozen" label on the box are related to my personality. My personality is like being surrounded by ice; it might seem cold at first, but it melts easily. If someone talks to me, I can naturally get along with them. The "keep frozen" label refers to my need for personal time. After socializing, that personal time becomes my healing period. Lastly, there is a opening on the box. I love observing things around me. Thus, I made a hole in my box, allowing myself to peek outside.
During the ideation process of this project, I initially struggled to decide which aspects of myself to present, which led to a design that was overly complicated and beyond my capabilities and available time. However, once I settled on the concept of using "books" as the products inside the box, everything began to fall into place. The label design had a clearer direction, and the ideas for execution came together naturally. I eventually managed to sketch out the blueprint. However, since I only started working on it two days before the presentation, I became extremely busy, pulling two all-nighters to complete the piece. Through this experience, I learned the importance of starting earlier to avoid time constraints, especially when I hit creative roadblocks.
